webmaster: person that coded and/or created the website!
toybox: collections of graphics, favicons, stamps, blinkies, buttons, and more! usually of the webmaster's liking. - also referred to as a collection of cute (originally illustrated) characters adopted from other people's sites.
pixels: graphics either handmade or found! term used for favicons, pixelated graphics, etcetra
favicons: small graphics, usually 16x16 pixels and used as website icons
emoticons: term used in the past for emojis - typically referred to custom emoji expressions
blinkies: thin flashing and/or sparkling banners, usually with text, an image, and flashing lights. collectible.
stamps: collectible rectangular images, usually 99x56px
buttons: images that are hyperlinked to other websites. often custom-made for one particular webmaster or site - usually 88x31.
web clique: online cliques serve as meeting points for web publishers with similar interests - you are invited to join as long as you abide by the rules. used to be elitist in the past, though they are way more accessible nowadays.
webring: a webring (or web ring) is a collection of websites linked together in a circular structure, and usually organized around a specific theme, often educational or social!
to be a part of the webring, each site has a common navigation bar; it contains links to the previous and next sites. by selecting next (or previous) repeatedly, the user will eventually reach the site they started at!
fanlist: a web clique that lists fans of a particular subject. unlike most web cliques, a person does not need a web site to join - fans from around the world submit their information to their approved fanlisting and they are then listed to show their love for the subject!
joining a fanlisting is completely free - all you need is a name, a valid e-mail address, and a country on the join form.
*please note that this is not a fanclub, forum, or mailing list. you don't get anything for signing up, you can't access anything if you do - but you can place a shiny button on your website (if you have one) to show people you're a fan of (character)!
CYOA: also known as choose your own adventure, are websites where you are encouraged to create characters based off existing parameters such as point systems and existing worldbuilding - you are given options to pick between, and then the rest of the story is up to you and your imagination. a lot of people often use it as a writing prompt, too - the aren't actually interactable games, unfortunately, more so an elaborate character making screen where you are given ideas for original characters in certain settings.
